Some Thoughts From The Principal

Our Open Day on Saturday May 5 was a wonderful success due largely to all of the work of our students, parents and staff who supported the day. About 35 new families viewed our school and according to the feedback most were very impressed with what they saw whether it be the friendly people, the excellent facilities or the activities running in various classrooms and on the sporting field. I would like to thanks those from our school community who contributed to the day enabling us to showcase our school.

I am very happy to announce the appointment of two new staff this week. Mrs Jenny Logan has recently been appointed as an Office Administrator full time. Jenny has had a wealth of experience in administration having worked in reception and administrative positions in large independent schools for almost 20 years. She is an extremely caring and competent person and will be a wonderful asset to our school. Jenny will start at MGS in week 8 of this term.

It is also wonderful to announce the appointment of Mr Frank de Ruyter as our new IB Diploma teacher. Frank will teach IB Maths, Physics and Chemistry as well as Year 9 and 10 Information Technology. Frank is a New Zealander who is currently teaching in Vietnam. He is an experienced teacher who has recently gone through a series of training in readiness for teaching the IB Diploma. Frank has taught in Australia before, having taught at Flinders Christian College in Traralgon. Frank will commence at MGS at the start of Term 3.

I would like to congratulate our 14 students in Years 2 to 8 who completed Science Talent Search projects in Term 1. These Science research projects have been assessed and each has met criteria at school level. Students are now completing some final adjustments before projects will be laminated ready for the State Judging day on August 11. I would like to thank the mentors who worked with these students, especially Mrs Pat D’Souza who played a leading role mentoring and encouraging students to complete the projects by the due date. In recent weeks about 20 students in Years 2 to 10 have been working on Maths Talent Quest projects. We wish these students well as they work to complete their Maths research projects during this term.
